This motor drive shield sits right on top of Arduino Uno/ Mega/ Leonardo and allows driving two DC motors and two servo motors. It uses a SMD L298P motor driver IC which can deliver output current up to 2A for each motor. The speed control is achieved through conventional PWM which can be obtained from Arduino PWM output Pins. The enable/disable function of the L298P IC is controlled by an Enable switch. The Motor shield can be powered directly from Arduino or from external power source depending on the need of the user.
Motor direction indicating LEDs gives visual signal of how the arduino controls the motors and eases programming. There’s also three power rails on this shield that makes it a small power distribution board. You can attach other Arduino shields on top of it.
In terms of motor control, this shield provides the most versatile solution, letting the user control 2 brushed DC motors using 2, 4 or 6 pins of arduino board. Moreover, it lets you measure how much current each motor is drawing using current sense resistor onboard.
